When Legacy Youth Zone wanted to re-design their website, they asked me to take the photographs of their busy Croydon Youth Zone in action.

Legacy provides an incredibly valuable service for the young people in their local community. From games for young children through to job and business advice for young adults – Legacy provides a safe space for their entire range of visitors to socialise, relax, work or play. There’s rock-climbing, boxing and gym facilities, music production and audio-visual facilities, sports halls and pitches outdoors… and that’s just for starters. It’s a dedicated, purpose-built centre, overseen by a team of staff who are there to offer teaching or support for the young people.

My documentary event photography style allowed me to record life at the Youth Zone as it really happened. Legacy were specifically after genuine, natural expressions and un-posed moments, so they could showcase an authentic, energetic representation of Legacy life. By working candidly and quietly, I made sure to express the happiness and youthful energy I experienced at Legacy as naturally as I could.
